Clinical Clerkship International Rotations

Fourth-year medical students interested in a unique elective experience might consider an International Health Elective Clerkship.

The International Health Elective Clerkship is designed to introduce medical students to health care provided in foreign countries. Students are able to select a country of choice to complete the rotation. For assistance in this selection, students may contact the Institute for International Health.

One of the most popular rotations is Dr. Taylor’s elective clerkship in Malawi, Africa. A University Distinguished Professor of Internal Medicine, Dr. Taylor spends each January through June treating malaria patients and conducting research at the Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre. During this rotation, students will provide services to the clinical wards at this hospital.

These unique experiences promise to enrich all participants’ education. It is important to note, however, that there are prerequisites, forms to complete, and MSU OSA requirements, so interested students must plan early.
